Metabolic and Respiratory physiology

The Metabolic and Respiratory physiology laboratory at Patanjali Research Foundation focuses primarily on yoga practices and metabolic and respiratory variables using different equipment’s:
  • Pulmonary function testing equipment (Quark CPET COSMED, Italy) to measure exercise testing and spirometry (forced vital capacity, lung volume, lung diffusing capacity (DLCO), respiratory mechanics, oximetry, airway resistance measurement test).
  • Schiller (Truscope II Multiparameter monitor, Guangdong Biolight Meditech, China) to measure physiological parameters: ECG, RESP, SpO2, NIBP, IBP, TEMP, CO2.
  • A 2 channel Biopac MP 45 data acquisition system (BIOPAC Systems Inc., USA) to measure breath characteristics (i.e. rate, depth and breath phase duration of breathing).

A subject fitted with a mask and connected to an open circuit metabolic analyzer (Quark CPET COSMED, Italy).

A subject fitted with specially designed canopy and connected to an open circuit metabolic analyzer (Quark CPET COSMED, Italy) to study oxygen consumption during pranayamas.

A subject connected to portable MP45 two channel polygraph and is being assessed for heart rate variability and respiration.
